This 14" drum is made with local Canadian Rosewood, Buffalo hide, sinew and rose quartz. The drum mallet is made with rabbit fur and leather. On the inner frame, lyrics from the song "Layer by Layer" are wood-burned, to keep this prayer close to your heart while drumming:
Layer by layer, I become what I am.
Each drum is handcrafted and one of a kind. The natural hide used in your drum will have its own unique pattern and markings, which may differ from the one pictured here. This variation is part of what makes each piece truly special — no two are exactly alike.
ARTIST BIO: Corinne is a Métis drum maker/painter, and tattoo artist living on Salt Spring Island, BC. She learned to make drums from Erik Jensen, and has been immersing herself in drum making for the past six years. Continuously evolving, Corinne has honed her skills and developed a distinctive technique and style, using crystals and leather to make the drum handles. She uses materials such as cedar, willow, arbutus, rosewood, buffalo, goat, elk, cow, mink, rabbit, and crystals to create drums as tools of connection and peace as well as beautiful art. Through this creative process, she finds herself intricately entwined with the cycle of life and her Métis roots, fostering a profound sense of connection and purpose.
Corinne has graciously joined with S A V A N N A to create this bespoke line to drums in connection with the Becoming album. These drums were played and woven into many of the songs on this album.
